It’s Wednesday, it’s blog day, and that means another day of either me ranting, empowering people, or just sharing my opinion over the internet like everyone else does. Now, I don’t at all mind if anyone wants to start intelligent conversations without being hateful and mean in the comments – just be nice and mature and everything will be great.
Now, I try to stay away from discussing the latest incidents that tend to float throughout social media. I tend to shy away from controversial topics because I like everything to be chilled out and fun on my blog. However, every once in a while – as much as I try to ignore the thoughts in my head – my opinion just seems to nag at me until I have to let it out.
Everyone is aware of the Kim Burrell (I think I spelled that right) situation yeah? If not, do click the link(s) below before reading further.
https://youtu.be/iZXu_DRQd1s (Video of Kim’s ‘sermon’)
Now, everyone who knows me knows that I’m a massive supporter of the LGBT community. I do come from a religious family, but that doesn’t make my support any less. I believe in equal rights regardless of race, sex, orientation, etc. I’m a person who would do anything to help or defend the LGBT community as I’m just like that. Happiness is happiness, love is love!
If anyone doesn’t know, Kim Burrell is a pastor I do believe and a gospel singer I think; and I’m sure she’s a nice lady really. Truthfully no lie, I only know her name because of this situation going around at the moment (lol). I noticed that she got a lot of crap about this sermon she preached, and so I decided to check it out and see what was going on. I watched the video (the link I provided above), and I was appalled to say the least. Maybe some of you have a different opinion and maybe I’m seeing things the wrong way, but all I can say is I was appalled. To me, I felt like she was being quite harsh with the subject of homosexuality with the use of the word “perverted” and the “delusion and confusion”. I just…yeah I was appalled.
After listening to her sermon – and finding the strength in myself to not be disrespectful towards her – I came across her “apology”, and I didn’t even watch all of it because I couldn’t get with it. It was then after all of this that I found out that she was meant to appear on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, and of course I was thinking: “Yeah not going to happen.” However, I tried to keep and open mind and to not respond to this situation.
And then, Ellen said this…
And all of that has led to my response today…
Okay. So…I understand that everybody has an opinion. I understand that people consider homosexuality as a forbidden subject in society, especially for religious individuals. I understand that not everybody may agree, BUT…there’s always a but isn’t there?
BUT, what I do think – there’s a way that people can express their opinions, a much less intimidating way. Apparently other preachers have spoken out like Ms Burrell has done and in the same manner, but I’m not sure what kind of responses they were given. I can only speak about what I’ve seen now. I think people have it a bit twisted. Some people feel as though people are bashing Ms Burrell for expressing her opinion alone, but I don’t think it’s the case because like I said, everyone has an opinion don’t they?
However, what I do feel like has gotten everyone a bit heated is the way she went about expressing her opinion and the use of the word “perverted” and such. I almost felt as though she was judging the LGBT community with her words, and really, does anyone have room to judge? Maybe I’m wrong or my opinion is just different, but I’m not feeling her speech at all.
And then people bashing Ellen as well – I’m sure Ellen has had plenty of people and run into many people over the years who disagree with the fact that she’s in love with and married to a woman. Like I said, fair enough, not everybody has to agree but be respectful at least. I personally don’t feel like Ellen booted Kim off the show simply because of Kim’s disagreement, but because of THE WAY she went about it. Like I said, I’m sure Ellen has run into plenty of people who disagree and not thought twice about it due to them being kind and respectful and not intimidating about it. Words and actions hurt – especially poor word choice and actions expressed in an intimidating matter.
Anyways, that’s my response to this situation. Comment below and let me know what you think. Thank you – and see you on Sunday.
